Villa construction starts on The World's Germany island

Construction has begun on the first villas on Germany on the manmade island development of The World, the developers behind the project confirmed on Monday.

Kleindienst Group has appointed Dubai-based City Diamond Contracting to start construction of villas on Germany, one of the six manmade islands that make up The Heart of Europe development on The World.

City Diamond Contracting, which previously built the villas in Emirates Hills, will build twenty villas on Germany, following the a four-month stabilisation process which was completed last month.

The first villa is due to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year and the twenty villas are due to be handed over to buyers next year. Kleindienst Group confirmed that thirteen villas had so far been sold.

“The start of construction on Germany Island is a defining moment, not only for the Kleindienst Group, but for all the government bodies of Dubai who have been facilitating the processes and procedures necessary to get this unique project off the ground. We are delighted to have reached this milestone in a project that has attracted worldwide attention since we launched The Heart of Europe last year,” said Josef Kleindienst, chief executive of the Kleindienst Group.

The Heart of Europe development consists of six islands on The World, an archipelago of 300 manmade islands built in the shape of a map of the world and located 4km off the Dubai coast.

In February, Kleindienst told Arabian Business that he had been eager to start construction on the islands while the construction costs were still low.

“Before crisis, construction companies didn’t even want to go out and touch these islands for below AED2000 per square foot. Now we can have the same work for AED500 per square foot,” he said.

The Heart of Europe project is spread over the islands of Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Netherlands, St Petersburg and Sweden and will also include Monte Carlo, a 415,000 square foot manmade Island that is being aimed at the yachting fraternity and has been “designed as a party island,” with access to the club restricted to adults only. Monte Carlo is scheduled to be open in time for New Year’s Eve 2010.
